Vaibhav’s wish to go to ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation)

A budding engineer in the making

Vaibhav Gala’s journey has been a rollercoaster, marked by significant health challenges and profound personal growth. Recently graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering, Vaibhav’s path was dramatically altered in 2017 when he was diagnosed with Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH), a rare and life-altering disease. This diagnosis came as a tremendous shock to his family. Despite their fears, they exhibited remarkable strength and unwavering support.

The disease initially left Vaibhav unable to walk for several months, a harrowing period filled with uncertainty and pain. However, with the commencement of chemotherapy, he slowly began to regain his strength. Having completed his mechanical engineering degree, Vaibhav is now working with a beverage brand, exploring automation and mechanisms—a field that deeply fascinates him.

In June 2018, Make-A-Wish India fulfilled its dream of visiting the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), providing a beacon of light during a dark time. The visit to ISRO was a transformative experience for Vaibhav. The scientists there were incredibly welcoming, showing him around and explaining their groundbreaking projects. Witnessing the making of Chandrayaan-3 up close was unforgettable, fuelling his passion for mechanical innovations. This experience lifted his spirits during treatment.

Make-A-Wish India provided much-needed hope during an otherwise depressing period filled with illness and hospital visits. The fulfilment of his wish played a crucial role in shaping his future, Vaibhav says “The fulfilment of this wish had a profound impact on me, boosting my confidence and motivating me to aim higher”

Looking ahead, Vaibhav aspires to bring significant innovations to the field of mechanical engineering, developing products that can make a real difference in people’s lives and contribute positively to society. Vaibhav’s experience has positively changed him, making him more empathetic, stronger, and more determined to give back to the community. Make-A-Wish India has not only provided him with moments of joy but also served as a turning point that shaped his future aspirations and instilled in him a drive to achieve greatness.

Vibhav’s flourishing life today is a powerful reminder of the difference that a single wish can make, proving that with support, encouragement, and a bit of magic, anything is possible.
