Srimon’s wish to have a laptop

From ill health to inspiration

Srimon Banerjee was diagnosed with Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL). At just 8 years old, Srimon endured a gruelling journey of misdiagnoses and prolonged treatment. His path to recovery began in Raheja Hospital in Mumbai and later continued in Kolkata, where his battle against cancer imposed significant restrictions on his life.

Amidst the trials of his illness, a glimmer of hope appeared when Srimon, then a 7th grader, met Make-A-Wish India. With a deep interest in computers sparked by his IT subject at school, Srimon wished for a laptop. Make-A-Wish India administered a test to determine if he was eligible to receive one, and Srimon’s exceptional performance earned him the coveted device. This moment marked the beginning of a transformative chapter in his life.

The laptop became Srimon’s gateway to a world of learning and growth. As he navigated the challenges of his illness, the device provided him with a sense of normalcy and continuity. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when the world came to a standstill, the laptop was a lifeline, ensuring that Srimon’s education continued uninterrupted. He explored various applications, learning accounting and mastering tools like Excel, Word, and Tally. This knowledge proved invaluable, allowing him to live a productive and meaningful life despite the constraints imposed by his health.

Granted his wish in the 10th grade, Srimon’s laptop has been a steadfast companion in his journey. Now at the age of 23, he works as an accountant in the private sector, using the skills he honed over the years with the help of his laptop. The device has been instrumental in his career, enabling him to perform his job efficiently and effectively.

Srimon’s journey once again proves that organization doesn’t just grant wishes it breathes life into dreams and aspirations, providing the tools and opportunities needed to thrive. Srimon’s story is one of resilience, hope, and the unwavering support of an organisation  dedicated to making a difference.

Reflecting on his journey, Srimon’s gratitude is palpable. “The laptop has been a blessing, allowing me to continue my education and pursue a career despite the challenges of my illness. Make-A-Wish India gave me more than just a device; “they gave me hope and a future and boosted my confident”

The wish provided Srimon the chance to dream, learn, and grow. We transform lives, proving that even amidst the darkest times, a single wish can illuminate the path to a brighter, more hopeful future
