Volunteering since a year,
Profession: Professional,
Chapter: Mumbai
Nandu had always admired the work of the Make-A-Wish India, but in his earlier years, he couldn’t find the time to volunteer. Now retired, Nandu has ample time to dedicate to this worthy cause. He finds immense fulfillment in working with underprivileged children and families who need hope, strength and joy. His motivation to volunteer stems from a deep empathy for those who are suffering, especially young children.
Nandu recounted a story of how a young child wished for Lays chips and a mini rail train. When Nandu visited the child again after a few days, the child joyfully remembered him as “Zoo Zoo Gadi uncle.” This interaction deeply touched Nandu, reinforcing his desire to alleviate the suffering of little kids.
Nandu’s own past struggles with a fear of hospitals, blood, and injections made him particularly empathetic toward children undergoing chemotherapy. Witnessing the bravery of these young patients, especially during his mother’s chemotherapy sessions, inspired him to spend time with them and bring moments of joy and comfort into their lives. Through his work with Make-A-Wish India, Nandu channels his compassion and admiration for these courageous children into making their wishes come true, finding profound satisfaction in their happiness and resilience.
